FAQ about Inline Wheels and Bearings for Skating & Fitness
Which inline wheels are suitable for skating?
Inline wheels differ in size and hardness (durometer). For indoor floors or smooth halls, we recommend soft wheels with 74A–76A – available here: Indoor Wheels. For outdoor use, harder wheels with 80A–82A are more durable – available here: Outdoor Wheels. Brands like Instrike, Bauer and Labeda offer a wide selection for every skater.
Can indoor wheels also be used outdoors?
Yes, indoor wheels can also be used outdoors. They provide excellent grip but wear out faster on asphalt. If you skate outdoors frequently, it’s better to use harder outdoor wheels. Indoor wheels are available here: Inline Indoor Wheels.
What does ABEC mean for inline bearings?
The ABEC scale is the technical standard for rating bearings. The higher the number, the more precise and smoother the bearing runs. In skating, ABEC-7, ABEC-9 and ABEC-11 are common – ABEC-11 is the highest rating available. Standard bearings can be found here: ABEC Bearings.
What are ceramic bearings and what advantages do they offer?
Ceramic bearings are among the highest-quality bearings for inline skates. They combine steel with ceramic balls, which are extremely light, heat-resistant and durable. This results in top smoothness, speed and longevity. Instrike Ceramic Bearings are currently among the best inline bearings available here: Instrike Ceramic Bearings.
What advantages do Instrike wheels offer compared to others?
Instrike wheels offer an excellent price-performance ratio. They are durable, provide very good grip and are often rated equal to or better than more expensive brands. Similar to private-label products in other markets, you get top quality at a lower price. This makes Instrike wheels very popular for skating.

Axles & Screws for Inline Skates
Axles and screws are essential to keep wheels and bearings safely in place. They secure the wheels in the frame and ensure stability while skating. Axles vary in length depending on the manufacturer – compatibility with frame, wheel and bearing is crucial. When changing wheels or bearings, screws should be checked and tightened. Replacement axles and screws are available in different sizes at Hockeyzentrale.
